Small, well-camoed and well-hidden container near the end of a levee-top walking/biking trail that overlooks the Oxbow, a five square mile nature preserve and wetlands area. DO NOT PARK OFF US50. See additional waypoints for parking coordinates.
The Oxbow is a flood plain with several permanent lakes, ponds and marsh areas. The main purpose is to preserve the area as a wetland, functioning as a major migratory stopover for a large variety of migratory birds, particularly waterfowl and shorebirds, and as a resting/roosting area for a wide variety of waterfowl and wading birds during the summer and fall months. In winter, the area serves as a hunting ground for raptors and a resting area for wintering waterfowl.
This cache is hidden in a secluded, out-of-the-way area near the end loop of the walking/biking trail that runs approximately 1.2 miles along the top of the Lawrenceburg levee, and overlooks almost the entirety of the Oxbow area. There is no need to enter the landscaping on the US50 side of the "Welcome to Lawrenceburg" sign....the cache cannot be accessed from there. Please park at the small pulloff near the end of Hollywood Boulevard, or even better, park at the trailhead coordinates and enjoy the scenic 20-minute walk to the cache.
This is meant to be harder than the other caches I have placed to date, and is rated accordingly. The terrain is not too bad, but the hide isn't what I'd consider easy. Starts off with a log sheet only, and you should bring a pen. Once you've got the smiley, take a moment to enjoy the natural beauty of this remarkable wetlands habitat.
