Here's an example of a short ride for just 4 horses & riders:
All 4 enter the arena together & trot round it.
Next they divide into 2 pairs & first 1 pair canters in a circle at one end while the second pair waits their turn.
Then they stop for the other pair to do the same thing at the other end.
For the 'figure of eight', 2 horses stand still a certain distance apart while the other 2 walk round them in the required shape, trying to keep the figure symmetrical.
After the applause, to liven things up, 3 horses canter in a line right across the arena while the fourth, (the fastest is chosen for this), gallops in the opposite direction.
The horses need calming down now so they all rein back to a trot & reform into a line.
For the grand finale they perform 'the spiral'. This movement starts with the inside horse standing still in the centre of the arena while 2 others trot in a circle around him & the outside horse needs to canter to keep the line straight.
They start with a large circle but gradually spiral in until it ends up with the centre one still, the next walking in a small circle around him, the third horse keeps trotting a slightly larger circle while the outside one still canters. This can look very effective if performed well.
