Geocache Description:

This cache is near Cardiff Castle's magnificent clock tower, but there's no need to enter the castle grounds. It is a nano cache measuring 20mm in length and 6mm in diameter. Needless to say, it only contains a small log, so please just initial. Maximum stealth is needed at this location, as it's muggle central.

Work began with the 150 feet high Clock Tower on the Marquis of Bute's coming of age, in 1868. William Burges was the architect. The tower is the 27th highest building in Cardiff.

The Animal Wall was designed by William Burges in 1866, but it was not built until 1890, after Burges's death in 1881. The animal wall was moved about 50m from directly outside Cardiff Castle to its present location outside Bute Park in 1922, due to road widening in front of the castle in Duke Street and Castle Street (now the A4161). In 1931 a further six animals were added; the pelican, ant-eater, racoons, leopard, beaver and vulture.

A post box opposite the cache site has been painted gold to celebrate Welsh cyclist Geraint Thomas winning first place with teammates in the men's pursuit in the 2012 London Olympics.
