I wanted to point out a great geocaching resource in Santa Barbara. Suppose you've been walking and caching along the waterfront all morning. How do you get back to your car *way back* at the harbor? Take the electric shuttle of course! It's only 50 cents and it typically runs every 10 minutes throughout the day.

When my kids were small, while my wife was shopping downtown, we would catch the electric shuttle and ride the whole route. My kids loved it, and ever since they would always shout "THERE GOES THE QUIET BUS!!" (loud like that) when they saw one go past.

Santa Barbara has these electric shuttles running a few different routes throughout the city and it's a great way to get around town, especially on a nice day. The Waterfront shuttle goes from the harbor to the zoo (and back of course). The one that runs from downtown to the waterfront can be caught at the foot of Stearn's wharf at the end of State St. and runs all the way up State St. through downtown Santa Barbara. You need exact change on these things, so make sure you have a few quarters on you. Kids under 48" are free though.

On this line, if you start out at the beach, you should have your choice of seating, but as you go further up State St., you'll find the little bus gets pretty packed with locals and tourists alike. If you visit Santa Barbara, your trip wouldn't be complete without at least a short ride on one of their useful and fun electric shuttle buses.
