A little history on Mount Hope Cemetery:
The 20 acre plot was given by Mrs. M. L. Sullivant for a free burying ground. Her husband, Michael L. Sullivant owned 80,000 acres in Champaign, Ford, Piatt, and Livingston counties.
The first tombstone burial record was in 1874, but there are likely others buried there before that date, in unmarked graves. Where they are buried will never be known, as there are no records of deaths (or births) in the Sullivant records or the Ford County records. An additional ten acres was purchased by the cemetery board in 1960.
