Close to the cache site, 3 large pipelines are buried in the ground. These pipes were laid in 2006 for OneSteel’s Project Magnet. One carries concentrated magnetite slurry from the magnetite concentrator at Iron Duke mine to the pellet plant (200mm diameter), one returns water from the pellet plant back to the concentrator (400mm diameter). The third pipe contains communication cables.
The pipeline system is 62 km in length and carries around 350 tonnes/hr of magnetite slurry. Around 560 kl/hr of water is returned in the water pipe. It takes about 9hrs 40minutes for the slurry to travel from Iron Duke to Whyalla.
I hope you have found this information interesting.
The cach is a small screw top container. Please be careful when removing and replacing the camo. Have fun.
(BTW: You may want to record the inside the lid of the container, or on the note inside if the lid numbers have rubbed off)
