Geocache Description:

This cache is number 3 in the OneSteel (OST) series.

Looking straight down Essington Lewis Avenue (north) you'll see the Iron Maiden - OneSteel's Blast Furnace. (The structure that looks like it has the frame of a shed on top.)

This furnace was built in 1965. The last major rebuild was in 2004 when the whole furnace was stripped of its lining and all the internals were replaced.

The furnace capacity is around 3600 tonnes of molten iron every day. That is around the same weight as 2100 Holden VE Commodores!
The record production since 2004 is 3726 tonnes in one day.

To produce 3600 tonnes the following inputs are used.

Material Tonnes/day
Coke 1640
Pellets 4437
Iron ore 1109
Limestone 217
Quartz 58
Dolomite 14
Air 4550
Oxygen 116
Steam 98
Natural gas 129

Please ensure cache is replaced properly.

Happy hunting

(BTW: You may want to record the number located inside the lid of the container - it's also on the log sheet. )
