Anglesea beach cache #4: Soapy rock
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
The Anglesea beaches cache series is a series designed to take you along some great beaches along the great ocean road and some beautiful and fun locations in Anglesea and Airey's Inlet.
Soapy rock is not actually a beach though the ocean area it is situated on is sometimes used or surfing though i do not recommend it unless you are experienced as it can get rough and is dangerous. Essentially soapy rock is a naturally formed mound of orange clay that when wet by the ocean (it almost always is) becomes slippery and takes many different formations so the terrain is quite difficult. The rock is often fished off and when the tide is low there are lots of great rock pools for the kids to play in.
The cache itself is a medium sized tupperware container, containing a logbook, pen (it may go missing so bringing your own is good), geocaching warning notice and swappables, it is painted to fit its surroundings and hidden. I have permission for placement
There are several ways to get to the cache, the first being you can park in the area i have specified walk down and turn left down the path and turn down the leftmost path once you have done that, follow that path down a short way and there will be a gap in the fence leading down to the rock, the second is to walk down the beach and then climb up the rock (only at low tide), and for people who know the area you can walk down the path from the main beach and take the gap in the fence turnoff.
The area is sligtly exposed so stealth is required when people are around.
Hope you like it and will take a while to appreciate the location and beach.
Happy caching and good luck from Happycat12.
PS. PLEASE PUT THIS CACHE BACK EXACTLY WHERE YOU FOUND IT!
