Little Pool is not referred to on any WM track chart. The relay box located at the C&O Canal entrance today was most likely installed by the Chessie System after abandoment of thru train service in May 1975.
It controlled a set of flashers and bell at the crossing to alert hikers crossing the tracks to reach the C&O Canal of approaching trains
This access was created through the efforts Harry L. "Hap" Powers, Jr. in 1978
He was an avid outdoorsman and as chairman of the national affairs committee of the National Wildlife Foundation, he worked for forty years at the state and national level to promote conservation and outdoor recreation.
Before this access was created local fisherman slid their canoes through the concrete drainage ditch, under the fence before crossing the tracks to gain access to Little Pool.
