Den svenska rättshistorien har varit blodig intill det dödsstraffet avskaffades genom lag år 1921. Dock utfördes den sista avrättningen 1910 och då av rånmördaren Ander och med hjälp av giljotinen, en modernitet när det gällde att hugga huvudet av människor, och med god erfarenhet från den franska revolutionen 1789.
Här på Listerby avrättningsplats avrättades ca 25 stycken människor under en hundraårs period från början av 1700-talet.
Här har förmodligen många människor, skyldiga så väl som säkerligen oskyldiga mäniskor fått sätta livet till och sedan undgått en neslig gravsättning någonstans i ett hål i den sandiga marken. På senare tid har ju skallar hittats.
