This is the place where the last Indian battle in Kansas was fought. A monument overlooks a cave, a canyon, and the bluffs where the Northern Cheyenne hid waiting to ambush the U.S. Cavalry. Explore the surrounding hills to discover rifle pits dug by the women. In the battle that followed, Commanding Officer Lt. Col. William H Lewis was mortally wounded and became the last officer killed in military action in the state of Kansas. During the night after the battle, The Northern Cheyenne fled.
Conditions have changed since the battle itself. The creek no longer flows as it did in 1878 but one can still sense the historic drama that took place here and appreciate the desperate situation which let to this battle.
You are looking for an ammo can. Please watch your step for cow pies, prickly pear cactus and rattlesnakes in warm weather. The cache is located just off a 'trail'. You probably won't run in to many muggles here. This is definitely not a cache to attempt at night or in bad weather.
Stop by the kiosk and grab some literature about the last Indian Battle in Kansas and sign the register. Thanks for coming..........
