Kurwongbah Koalas Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Ando1Bar: A lot of effort went into the multi to make it unique and interesting, but people seem to focus on the container being wet and coordinates being off. It's in a forest - things get wet and signals bounce.

I can't get there to dry up the final cache, so this one's being archived. Sick of reading about people complaining - just enjoy the hunt when you're geocaching and worry less about the log book's condition.

Geocache Description:

This multicache has been designed to take you through part of Moreton Shire’s most densely populated koala habitat. Despite being ‘heavily’ populated, it is estimated there are only 0.4-0.8 koalas per hectare. Some experts predict that due to the current demise of the koala and its habitat, they may become extinct in south-east Queensland by 2020. The area you will be exploring is part of land set aside by Moreton Shire Council to help preserve koalas and their habitat.
There are four caches to discover – the first will give coordinates for caches two and three. The second and third caches will provide the coordinates for the fourth and final cache. The walk between caches will give you an opportunity for koala spotting, with the final cache giving the explorer an insight into another rare species.

Total walking distance for this cache is approximately 2.5km. You will be walking on paths or through parks for a majority of the trip, however, you will need to go off trail and into bushland for approximately 50m at caches one and four.

I recommend starting this multicache mid-afternoon to give you the best chance of spotting “moving” koalas and completing the challenge before sunset. The most central parking position would be along Kurwongbah Drive, Petrie, near the playground equipment. Access to the first cache is easiest via the fire trail access gates on the corner of Kurwongbah Drive and Beeville Road. Do not jump any fences to obtain further caches – following the park will take you to the correct location.

A picnic afterwards alongside Lake Kurwongbah at Mick Hanfling Park is recommended due to the great scenery. The only log will be in cache number four. Let us know if you sight a koala!

Cache information:
  • Cache 1: S 27° 15.262 E 152° 57.614
  • Caches 2 & 3: Coordinates provided in cache number one. These are both micro caches,
  • Cache 4: Coordinates spilt between caches two and three, however, will be located in Kurwongbah Park. This cache is big enough for swapables.
