Geocache Description:




Place of unspoilt beauty


Ballaghbeama gap is pass between the north and south of the Iveragh Peninsula, north of Sneem. Carrauntoohil, Ireland's highest point, is a short distance to the east.
The interior of the Inveragh Peninsula in County Kerry is criss-crossed by a maze of minor country lanes. At the center lies the unspoilt countryside of the Glencar region. There, the clear waters of Lough Caragh the Caragh River, and Cloon Lough are home to Atlantic salmon, and are a favorite destination for keen anglers. Beyond Glencar, the many peaks of the Macgillycuddy's Reeks offer impressive ridge hikes, with outstanding views out across the Ring of Kerry.
From Glencar, narrow road through the Ballaghbeama Gap cuts across the mountains creating a natural pass (between Mullaghanattin and Knockaunanattin). Though open to two-way traffic, this minor road is basically a single-lane track, with occasional widened spaces for passing. Wandering sheep and a rock-strewn edge also make for slow and steady driving! Beautiful mountain views and great drive off the beaten tracks.

To get there:


Turn right at Moll’s Gap along the R568 and drive on for a further 10 kilometres through a crossroads signposted to Lough Brin, continue on for a further half kilometre and take the road leaving the R568 to the right.There is parking available close to cache location (at the summit of the pass).

This cache is great opportunity to explore wild side of Ireland and to experience beautiful mountain drive.
Remember- terrain difficulty could be higher when it’s raining. Cache is regular size ammo box containing swappables+ logbook.
