Geocache Description:

A memorial stone was placed in this park in May 2012, near a gravesite where historians believe three unknown British soldiers were buried after the Battle of Cowpens. The soldiers were wounded when Gen. Daniel Morgan routed British Troops in the January 17th, 1781 battle in a turning point for the Revolutionary War. The soldiers were brought to a cattle driver's rest stop called Hannah's Cowpens. They bled to death after their arrival in the area now known as Limestone Springs. Historians can only speculate the reasons the soldiers were transported from the Battle of Cowpens in the frantic retreat of the British following the battle. The soldiers were buried near the Limstone Springs with the permission of Patriot Capt. Vardry McBee Sr. and his wife, Hannah Echols who owned all the land and had built a home 100 yds. north of the spring. One can not help but be struck by the humanity shown to these nameless British Soldiers by the McBee family. On the memorial stone, the words "Unwept, Unhonored, and Unsung" are engraved. Congrats on FTF : RobinMohawk
