Geocache Description:

This cache is in Cardiff city centre, south of the railway, on West Canal Wharf, near the antiques market. MAXIMUM stealth is needed at this location, as it's muggle central, especially during weekday office hours as there are many offices nearby.

West Canal Wharf gets it name from the wharf that once here on the Glamorganshire Canal from Merthyr to Cardiff. The photograph on the website shows the location at the turn of the century.

The canal followed the Taff in the main. At Blackweir in Cardiff it followed North Road to the walls of Cardiff Castle. It flowed under Kingsway, where the pedestrian subway is now, and continued to Queen Street, through town to Mill Lane and eventually West (and East) Canal Wharf.
In 1915 Cardiff Corporation bought the canal and declared it closed.

Although not a very inspiring part of Cardiff, it is full of history and the location for considerable regeneration in recent years.
