Dead Branch - Live Branch Traditional Cache

This is another cache on the popular new cycle path following the route of the railway branch-line which once ran from Cambus Junction via Menstrie to a terminus in Alva. The path is tarmac & suitable for wheelchairs & buggies. Closest parking is at Cambus. Cache is a 25ml sample tube.

In fact near here the path deviates from the old railway, just before the old Cambus Junction, in order to dive under the bridge which carries the restored Alloa to Stirling railway over the River Devon. This line was formally reopened on Thursday 15 May 2008. It carries passengers as far as Alloa & also for a few years much of the coal freight heading for Longannet power station, until that was closed in 2016.

This cache is also near New Mills Doocot, a 17th century rectangular doocot & the only lectern-type doocot in Clackmannanshire. It has a single rat course and crow-stepped gables for pigeons to sit on. Unfortunately it is in a fairly ruinous condition.
