Geocache Description:

This cache is located nearby a billboard sign that is seen by over 10,000,000 eyes a year. Although not accessible directly from the interstate, the cache is accessible from some country roads and a small gravel road the seekers can travel to locate the cache.

Many times you ignore these billboards as you travel down the interstate, unless you are getting hungry or need to stop for a potty break. But they are important none the less. Politicians, hospitals, restaurants, sports teams, hotels, and various other business, corporations, or persons can rent out these billboard signs for a fair amount of money to get their message out. The cost can be from $250 a month in a less traveled route to $10,000 a month in a major city freeway system. You would be surprised at how long these billboard signs have been around. The very first large billboard was displayed at the Paris Exposition in 1889 and one of the most popular billboard series to date is the 1925 Burma-Shave promotions that had people driving all over the country side to read the signs.

Billboards have gotten fancier of the years and have gone beyond simple painted signs to lithograph posters to LED and digital displays. There are even billboards that have rotating panels that you can get two or three different advertisements on the same space (a gold mine to the person that owns the signs.)

So take some time and just think about all the various billboards that you come across in your drive to this cache or any other knowing that these signs have been around for quite some time and will probably remain long after most of us have moved on.
