Surfcoast Secrets is a series of caches designed to share some of the places that make the Surfcoast special. These include iconic and lesser known views, local history and landmarks. #9 takes you to a spot where you have a panoramic view from the Heads to a surf break known as "Winki Pop" to the locals.
When the cache that was previously at this spot was archived, I contacted the owner, who gave me his blessing to reactivate the location, as this view really needs to be shared.
The Surfcoast walk is a very popular one and as a result, muggle traffic here can be very high, which is the main reason for the difficuty level. Along this track you can encounter muggles with two legs or four, wheels and on very rare occasions, hoofs !
WP 1 is the is at what locals call "The Wave", which marks the entrance to the Bells Beach Surfing Reserve and WP 2 is the parking area at "Steps". Access is via the well made and maintained Surfcoast Walk track, which runs from Barwon Heads to Aireys Inlet and beyond. The track is stroller-friendly, although there are some steep stretches.
This cache is a concealed Bison Tube. Please take care replacing it as it needs to stay concealed. Watch out for muggles in both directions and especially some of the testosterone-fuelled bike riders, who hurtle along at a great rate of knots. You also need to be careful of muggles in the houses behind, who have a view of the hide.
This is a kid-friendly cache, with the proviso above. Most riders take care along here, but there are a few morons, so keep your kids under supervision, just in case.
