Long Description
It is 1.1 km from the car park to the lookout on a good track, the first 300 m of which follows a section of the old Lyell highway before turning right into the rainforest. There are mosses, fungi and ferns and myrtle, sassafras, celery-top pine and leatherwood trees abound. A few old, remnant, giant, gum-top stringy bark trees complete the experience. After a steady climb, with well made steps, the track emerges on a narrow, heathy, ridge with banksias, bauera and button grass. The lookout is perched precariously at the end of this ridge on the top of the hill from which views of the Collingwood and Franklin Rivers can be seen below and the peak of Frenchmans Cap can be seen above.
The cache is at ground level, under the seat, by the steps. There’s a pencil and log, but no room for swaps. When replacing it, keep it vertical, ‘X’ end up.
