Geocache Description:

The Barrow Blitz was the bombings of Barrow-in-Furness which primarily took place between 3rd-10th May 1941.

This series aims to bring Geocachers to locations which had something to do with the Barrow Blitz.
Please respect these locations, and take a moment to think of the terrible but fascinating story behind these locations.

This cache is located by Barrow Station, which was severely damaged on the night of May 7th 1941.

Well-known steam-engine 'Coppernob' was on display in Barrow Station during the war years, and unfortunately, pieces of shrapnel and metal from German bombs put holes and dints into Coppernob, leaving it badly damaged.

The image shows Barrow Station after the bombings.

83 Barrovians died during The Barrow Blitz, which isn't even 1% of the total death toll for the whole country.

The cache is a black magnetic nano, with room only for a log sheet... So you'll have to bring your own pen/pencil.

Easy to do whilst waiting for a train!
*The cache is NOT inside the station building*
