Mongo: ###ARCHIVING CACHE###

No response from cache owner.

While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for you and block other cachers from entering the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time I don’t think we can do so any longer. Therefore, I have archived this cache. If you haven’t done so already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

When repairs to this cache are completed, and it is time to have it listed once again it will be no problem as long as it still meets the guidelines. Just drop me a note (by email at reviewer.mongo@gmail.com) and let me know the GC waypoint number of the cache or better yet, the URL of the cache page. You will still be able to access your cache page just as before by going to your “My Cache Page” and clicking the link of your cache.

I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute to geocaching in the past and I am looking forward to seeing your cache up and running in the future.

Thanks for your understanding,

Mongo

Geocache Description:

How many times have you walked to the Muny or driven by Pagoda Circle and looked over at the bandstand in the middle of the lake?

Plenty of times if you're like me. Well this cache is finally a chance for you to get over to the bandstand and check it out. You'll need a boat of some sorts for your journey. I have a kayak and it worked great. Stealth is also a must.

Here's a little bit of history on the bandstand from Forest Park Forever-

"The island in the center of Pagoda Lake was the site of the Park’s first bandstand from 1876, also called the music pagoda. The original pagoda was deemed unsafe and closed in 1911. It was damaged beyond repair by storm, the wreckage burned and was torn down around 1912. It was replaced by the Nathan Frank Bandstand in 1925. Donated by Nathan Frank, the bandstand was designed by Heffensteller, Hirsch and Watson. Pagoda Circle was restored as part of the Forest Park master plan. The landscape, designed by the firm of Oehme van Sweden, was planted by volunteers from the Flora Conservancy."

The cache is located on the NW side of the gazebo. It's a small plastic bottle wrapped in black electrical tape. It's hidden inside a broken window on the NW side of the bandstand. I'm giving you such clear directions so you can make the find quickly and stealthly.

The journey to the cache will be quite a bit harder than finding the cache itself. You'll need a boat. Please don't try wading to the cache. The water may be deep and the bottom is a muddy mess.

I recommend putting in where Lagoon Drive crosses the river. From here, you have a .4 mile float to the cache. You will have one portage down a set of rapids, but other than that, it's an easy paddle. When you get to the island, make sure you secure your boat somehow. I lifted my kayak onto the concrete rim to keep it from floating away.

One last thing with regards to searching for the cache- be stealthy and choose a good time to go. You should NOT search for the cache during summer evenings when plays are going on at the Muny. There are simply too many muggles then. Early mornings are good, but be observant of the park curfew (I think that's 10pm to 6am).
