Geocache Description:

Amy Gillett was a dedicated sportswoman. She competed for Australia in rowing, before changing sports and started riding. Sadly Amy was killed while in Germany on a training ride.

This is the first of what I hope will be many more caches along the bikeway. Please add your own personal tribute along the bikeway.

Amy Gillett, nee Safe (1976 - 2005) was born in Adelaide, educated at Annesley College.

Amy competed in the women's eight's (rowing) at the Atlanta Olympic games, before retiring from rowing and starting competitive cycling. She had competed at World level. Sadly she died when a young german driver drove into the cycling squad, killing Amy and injuring many of her team mates.
Amy's husband and former rowing caoch, with the Australian Cycling Federation established the Amy Gillette foundation, to promote safe cycling and bike awareness.
In January 2010 the Amy Gillett bikeway opened.

I hope you enjoy your walk/ride along the bikeway. Please respect both the walkway and the person who it is a tribute too.
