Legenden om Gotland 5

På dagen då tredje månvarvet började hade man mycket att göra, för festen för de döda skulle vara på kvällen. Schamanen hade sagt att man skulle göra upp eldar på alla kullarna så de resandes andar kunde hitta hem.

Vid skymningen blev det ett herrans liv på stranden, barn kom springande upp till sina mödrar och skrek att det var andar på stranden! Alla blev upprörda, men så kände man igen männen - de hade kommit hem levande! Det blev en härlig fest, inte för männens andar utan för att de hade kommit hem - och finfin flinta hade de med sig.

ENGLISH:
The day of the third moon was very busy, the feast for the dead was being held that night. The shaman had told the tribe to make bonfires on the hills for the travellers spirit to find their way home.

At dusk there was a terrible noise on the beach, children came running up to their mothers, screaming that there was spirits on the beach! Everyone was upset, but then they recognized the men – they had come home alive! They had a wonderful feast, not for the spirits but for the homecoming of the men – and they brought very nice flintstone.
