I discovered JRR Tolkiens Middle Earth books at a very important time in my life. I was 19 years old and struggling to survive Naval Nuclear Power School. The books the Hobbit and the Trilogy of Ring provided me a safe escape each night as I drug my exhausted body to bed. Most of the time I didn't have the energy to read more than a page or two, but that was enough. During this difficult time of my life, the Elvin village of Rivendell held a special appeal to me as a magical place of peace and safety.
When I saw the magnificent white horses on the fountain where this cache is located, my mind was immediately drawn to Rivendale with its protective river that turned into a torrent of white, running horses that devoured any evil that tried to enter. And so the name of this cache was born.
However, my youngest son, who was there when I hid it insisted that it must be named after the fountain's figurehead, Poseidon. Finally, we came to a compromise, naming it Rivendell Meets Poseidon.
The cache has been updated to include the recent addition of Aragog.
Special thanks to Pickatree, who provided the original container. I had to use my iPhone to get the coordinates, so I provided an especially detailed hint for those who desire it.
Note: Aragog moved on, but the hint should still help. Hopefully he will show up again soon, providing a good home to yet another cache.
We play hard !
