Geocache Description:

Kleiner Tradi an der historischen Tuxer Mühle

Small traditional at historical Tuxer Mill

Tuxer MühleTuxer Mühle in Juns

The Tux Mill in Juns which dates from 1839 preserves a piece of traditional farming culture. In the past, most farmsteads were largely self-sufficient. The farmers cutivated barley which thrives even at this elevation. Barley flour was not only used to bake bread but also to prepare noodles, doughnuts etc.
Water-driven mills were located alongside the tributary streams of the Tuxbach. Later on these mills were no longer needed and maintained, and eventually they fell into disrepair. The mill on the Mühlbach ("mill stream") in Juns was also nearly abandoned. The value of these old buildings was recognised at almost the last minute, and with considerable dedication the Tux Tourism Association initiated and promoted the repairs.
Every Monday from June to September, the miller operates the water-driven mill between 13.00 and 16.00 hours to grind grain like in old times. Small authentic flour sacks with a Tux bread recipe (in German) are available as souvenirs.
