The area beyond the gate is posted no trespassing and is not the current parking area. The cave is off limits and probably only accessed legally by permit but doubt it. So please stay out of the woods.
This cache is located at the old parking area for J4. I'm not sure where they park now, but this was a very busy place for spelunkers to park while exploring the cave. The cave got its name from the 4 Johns that found it and has 4,350 feet of mapped passage and more unmapped. Over the past few years, less and less people use this route, probably due to Graymont posting the entire area past the gate no trespassing and the greater restrictions on who is allowed in the quarry. My relatives live directly across the street from this cache, and when I was a kid I can remember at least 3 or 4 cars a day parked here. There was a time, that two guys came up to the door while I was visiting and needed to call 911 to get help for a friend who fell in the cave. This was a fairly common occurrence during the 90's, whenever the restrictions were more relaxed.
