We think Smithsburg is a charming little town but many people in the area have never been here. This walking tour will take you around town to learn a little history and see some of the unique architecture of the buildings.
The posted coordinates are for suggested parking along Main Street but you can park anywhere that’s convenient for you.
See the link right above the 'logged visit' section (below) to print out the puzzle page. Instructions are included. There are some decoy photos on the page that will make your puzzle solution incorrect if you match them to one of the listed coordinates so be attentive to where you are.
We planned these coordinates in an order that will provide a direct route around town that will end up close to the location of the final cache but you can do these in any order you wish. The tour will take you on streets through alleys and on paths but you should not need to cut through any yards. We expect that it will take 30 to 45 minutes to complete.
At the last stop (stop N) look up and to your left. You will see the famous “cannonball house” and the actual cannonball fired during the battle of Smithsburg in 1863 that is still lodged in the bricks.
If you are making this tour on a Saturday and are interested in the town’s history, make sure to check out the Smithsburg Historical Society, located at 20 East Water Street, which is open from 10 am – 2pm.
This is a daytime only cache.
The final cache is a regular sized, camo covered lock-n-lock container. FTF prize is a CAM 2012 pathtag.
The Mayor's Office of the Town of Smithsburg has given permission for this tour and cache. The final cache was placed with permission of the property owner and property leaseholder. The town police and the next door neighbor to the cache location have been informed that there will be cachers on the property.
