As I was scouting out the spot for this cache something caught my eye ... and as most cachers, I thought "Hey, that looks like a cache"! Upon closer inspection, I realized that it was an old broken lantern that had been 'lost at sea' (well, in this case 'lost at lake') And suddenly, a long forgotten childhood memory came rushing back.
I was probably 10 or 12 years old when I was out fishing with my dad and my brother on Lake Okeechobee down in Florida, you know where the BIG alligators are ... we were fishing at night for Speckled Perch. The perch are attracted by light so, my dad had his lantern hanging on a stick over the side of the boat, just above the water. We fished for what seemed like HOURS to a little kid (guess that's why I never wanna quit) ... we ALWAYS caught lots of fish (well, most of the time) ... when suddenly, the boat jerked and the lantern hit the water ... we all watched as the light slowly faded as the lantern sunk deeper and deeper into the depths of the lake ... and there we were ... Sitting in the pitch darkness with several miles to get back to the campground ... did I mention the alligators??? ... needless to say, that ended our fishing for the night and from then on, that spot was known as "Al's Lantern Pass"

My dad, Al Diamond ... He loved to fish!
I'm sure the search for this cache won't be nearly as exciting (or as scarey) as the way I remember this fishing adventure ... but, you're sure to have a good time out on this lake! Remember to BYOP!
PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO ACCESS THIS CACHE BY LAND ... THE LAKE IS PUBLIC ...
THE LAND IS PRIVATE PROPERTY!

IF you DO NOT have a kayak or canoe, on occassion we will be available with our 'Catch a Glimpse' kayak tour to provide access .... at NO COST to geocachers, rules and weight limits apply. Please contact the CO for information and availability.
