A little bit of history on the location.

Highcliff children walked down the track (District Track) to Macandrew Bay every day until their own school was built here in 1871, with William Hay as the first teacher. A post office was sited next door to the school in 1876.

William Duthie became the second school master in 1875, also became the first Post Master. (The North East Harbour teachers also performed post office duties from 1867-1908)

After Highcliff School closed in 1950 local children transferred to Andersons Bay School. Today a school house remains and as with many disused public buildings the hall has been converted to a house.
