Sharks Nest is in the Elliott River and is nursery grounds of a range fish in near pristine fisheries habitats in one of the few unimpounded systems of southern Queensland. You don’t need a boat to catch fish in this area.
The fish habitat area is enhanced by mangrove forests dominated by Avicennia, Rhizophora and Ceriops, ephemeral Halophila and Zostera, intertidal sand and mud banks, rock bars
Watch out for flathead; whiting; bream; barramundi; estuary cod; sweetlip; mullet; king, tiger and banana prawns; mud and sand crabs. Elliott River is a declared fish habitat area and is one of the few coastal systems in southern Queensland not regulated by weirs, dams or other impoundment structures, providing unimpeded connectivity between estuarine and freshwater habitats.
