Geocache Description:

Small plastic container with log and small swag items.  No bushwhacking required.  Easy find for beginners or children.

The Litton Center is a great place to learn about the history of Smithville Lake.  Inside you will find maps, area information and acess to a viewing tower from which a scenic view of Smithville Lake can be seen.  Jerry Litton, a former Missouri Representative, was instrumental in passing legislation to create the Smithville Dam and reservoir to protect the city of Smithville from repeated flooding by the Little Platte River.  There are several other caches placed around the lake, so bring a picnic, camera, swimsuit or fishing gear and enjoy your day!  The Litton Center provides free parking and the friendly staff can direct you to the other free areas around the lake and also give you information on entry and camping fees.  Permission to place this cache was obtained from Lora Vacca - Corps of Engineers Operations Manager.
