Within Loch Ard Forest lies the Glasgow Corporation Water Works system. Which brings water down to Glasgow from Loch Katrine, it was admired internationally as an engineering marvel when it was opened in 1860.
In our usual way we spent a lot of time discussing the vision that led to these aqueducts being built over 150 years ago without the use of our modern technologies.
Whilst enjoying the view, we spotted a summer house tucked away up in the hills. Several miles later on our walk we stumbled across it and it wasn’t a summer house but another feat of Victorian Engineering. Turns out it is the Valve House for the water works.
We spent some time exploring, enjoying the views and wildlife around the valve house. In our minds we completely renovated it into a perfect wee holiday home.
The cache is not directly at the valve house, but a short distance away. It is however well worth a look. The track to this cache would be ideal for cycling.
The cache is placed with the kind permission of the local forestry commission team.
