L’antefatto
Il mattino del 7 febbraio 1945, sei giovani aviatori americani salirono sul loro aereo da combattimento, un B-25J Mitchell stazionato in Corsica dal nomignolo di “The Big Swing”. Missione, distruggere un importante e ben difeso obiettivo nel Nord Italia: il ponte ferroviario di Lavis. Dopo un attacco della contraerea, l’equipaggio di un altro velivolo costatò una grossa breccia in un’ala del “Big Swing”. L’apparecchio perse velocemente quota e l’equipaggio si mise in salvo col paracadute. L’aereo senza pilota precipitò ad Arbedo, presso Bellinzona. (fonte: www.warbird.ch, tradotto)
Epilogo
I sei aviatori si salvarono tutti. Vennero curati al S. Giovanni di Bellinzona, poi internati e infine rispediti a casa dai loro cari con tanto spavento. Il luogo dello schianto è, più precisamente, da situare sulla frana del Motto d’Arbino, raggiungibile con un’escursione da Arbedo (inizio del sentiero JB, inizio della strada per chi vuol farla in bici BK) via Lago d’Orbello – (Motto della Costa in bici) – Monti di Cò (Cache Woodrow Sheffield, WS). L’ultimo tratto è da percorrere fuori sentiero, prima su terreno scosceso nel fitto del bosco e poi sulla frana impervia: consigliamo di non andarci da soli (attributo teamwork) e di non provarci da Tagliada (Evo Petruzzi)! Una mezza giornata secondo noi non basta: sono 800m di dislivello a piedi più ricerca e ritorno o 1100m + 400m al ritorno per la bici. Calcolatene le coordinate N 46° 12.UVW, E 9° 4.XYZ con i "numeri fortunati" raccolti nella serie e le seguenti formule:
UVW = (C/D) – E + (B/A) + ((F/D) * 2)
XYZ = (A*E) + B – C - (D*F) + A - D
Somma di controllo UVWXYZ = 19
Chissà che, oltre alla cache, non troviate anche qualche pezzetto del “Mitchell”! Noi ne abbiamo ricuperati tre al momento della posa, nel fitto del bosco. Il tema della “Nose art” del B-25 è tratto dalla Pin-up di Jules Erbit “Swing time” e da il nickname al bombardiere. Nonostante le dimensioni, nella cache c'è pochissimo posto per gli oggetti da scambiare: GC, piccoli TB e poco altro. Trattatela p.f. con delicatezza..

Background
In the morning of February 7th, 1945 six young American flyers mounted its combat aircraft, one in Corsica stationed B-25J Mitchell with the nickname “The Big Swing”. Mission, the destruction of an important and strongly defended objective in northern Italy: the bridge of Lavis. After an attack of the “Flak”, the crew of another airplane determined a large hole in the wing of the Big Swing. The bomber lost rapidly height and the crew left its Mitchell with the parachute. Epilogue
The six flyers survived the journey: they were recovered at the S. Giovanni hospital in Bellinzona and then internated in Switzerland before to be sent back home. The bomber crashed on the earthslide of Motto d’Arbino. You can reach it with a trekking from Arbedo (trailhead JB) to Lago d’Orbello – Monti di Cò (Cache Woodrow Sheffield, WS). The last part is off trail, in a steep, dark forest and then on the earthslide: don’t go alone (attribute teamwork) and don’t go from Tagliada (Evo Petruzzi)! Half a day is probably not enough: they are more than 800m difference in height plus special efforts. Calculate the final coordinates N 46° 12.UVW, E 9° 4.XYZ with the Lucky numbers you found with the six caches of this series:

XYZ = (A*E) + B – C - (D*F) + A - D
Control sum UVWXYZ = 19
You will maybe find, like us in the forest, some pieces of the “Mitchell”! The Nose art of the B-25 comes from a pin-up artwork of Jules Erbit, “Swing time” and gives to the bomber his nickname. Altough it is a “large” cache, it has tiny place for trade objects. Please handle it careful.

Am Morgen des 7. Februar 1945 bestiegen sechs junge amerikanische Flieger ihr Kampfflugzeug, eine auf Korsika stationierte B-25J Mitchell mit dem Spitznamen "The Big Swing". Der Einsatzbefehl lautete: Zerstörung eines wichtigen und stark verteidigten Zieles in Norditalien, die Brücke von Lavis. Nach einem Angriff der Flak, stellte die Crew einer anderen Maschine ein grosses Loch im Flügel der "Big Swing" fest. Die Maschine verlor rasch an Höhe und die Crew verliess ihre Mitchell mit dem Fallschirm. Die führerlose Maschine stürzte in Arbedo bei Bellinzona ab. (Quelle: www.warbird.ch)

Alle sechs Flieger überlebten den Fallschirmsprung. Sir wurden am S. Giovanni Spital von Bellinzona geheilt und dann in der Schweiz interniert, bevor sie wieder nach Hause geschickt wurden. Die Absturzstelle befindet sich auf der Erdrutschen von Motto d’Arbino und kann aus Arbedo mit einer Bergwanderung erreicht werden. Weganfang ist bei JB, dann via Laghetto d’Orbello – Monti di Cò (Cache Woodrow Sheffield, WS). Der letzten Stück ist ausser Weg, in einen steilen un dunklen Wlad zuerst, und auf der Erdrutsche nachher. Geht nicht alleine (attribute Teamwork) und geht nicht aus Tagliada (Evo Petruzzi)! Ein halber Tag ist knapp: es ist länger als die angegebenen >800m Höhenunterschied. Rechne die Endkoordinaten N 46° 12.UVW, E 9° 4.XYZ mit der “Glückszahlen” gefunden in dieser Serie:
UVW = (C/D) – E + (B/A) + ((F/D) * 2)
XYZ = (A*E) + B – C - (D*F) + A - D
Kontrollsumme UVWXYZ = 19
Wer weiss, vielleicht werdet ihr auch einen Stück des B-25 finden, wie es uns im Wald passiert ist! The „Nose art“ kommt aus einen Pin-up Kunstwerk von Jules Erbit, „Swing Time“, un d gibt dem Bomber seiner Nickname. Trotz „large size“, es hat ganz wenig Platz für Tauschobjekte. Bitte sei Sorgfältig in deren Handlung.
