Geocache Description:

A small cache next to one of Fife’s hidden relics, just off the Dalgety Bay coastal path. A bench is nearby so you can stop and enjoy the scenery!

Donbristle Chapel is one of Dalgety Bay’s best kept secrets and lies just of the coastal path as it winds along the Firth of Forth.

This chapel was built as a private mortuary for Donibristle House and nine earls of Moray are buried there. Donibristle House has now been demolished and the town of Dalgety Bay has been built on the lands formerly belonging to the house.

The English translation of the Latin inscription is:

“This temple ... consecrated to the Founder of Time and Eternity, dedicated to the practice of the most holy religion, for their heirs a spur to that true nobility which is grounded in virtue, for themselves and their descendants a haven where with furled sails they may find rest in the place where they would be, Charles and Anne, Earl and Countess of Moray, caused to be built and decorated in the 1731st  year of the Christian era and the 5th year of the reign of George 2nd.”

Cache is a 35mm film canister.
