Geocache Description:

If you're wondering why I'm forbidden from taking the family 2WD Honda Pilot off pavement ever again, go out for this cache and you'll see!
If you'd like to do it the way I did, start out at L&L - Peggy Clevenger and just follow Woodmanise Rd - after all, it's on the map!

This cache commemorates where we got stuck trying to backtrack our way out!

Seriously, though, if you do this cache in anything larger than a Jeep Wrangler - you're insane.
What's marked as a "Trailhead" is simply where things get way too narrow for a full-size SUV to fit. I scraped the hell out of the Pilot in early April *before* all the underbrush grew in and encroached on the trail.

Vehicle problems arise a few hundred feet south of the cache - you come to a stream that crosses the road. At this point, there is no hard-packed puddle edge to drive around. We drove through today with our Jeep Wrangler, and I'm glad I made the choice not to try in that Pilot! You will not get a 2WD through here. Less than 3/4 of a mile to Route 72 and you're not making any further progress South. Be glad you got this far! At this point in my exploring back in April I realized I had to back up and find a place to turn around - remember how narrow I said the track was back here? Of course I tried to turn around at the wide point of a dry puddle!

Guess what wasn't really dry? Yup. That puddle that looked like it only had a little water on one edge was crusted-over Pinelands goop. Managed to get one front wheel caught in a rut, and it was all over. Half an hour of sweating and pushing the front bumper while GeoKid1 worked the brakes and the gas finally had us free so I could turn all the way around and face a mile and three-quarters of paint-scraping underbrush and branches.

Sure, you can come at the cache from Rt. 72. I marked "Parking" where we came out of the woods today, but a few hundred feet down the road is a trail/road that's a bit more open. On the map that's where Woodmansie meets 72. Less than 3/4 of a mile up you'll stop your Northward progress at exactly where I stopped my Southbound travel, unless you've got a small 4WD.

Know your cachemobile limits!

I guess you could just walk ...

Cell reception is spotty (at best!) in the Pines - make sure you file a flight plan with a friend no matter if you're hiking, biking, walking, running, driving or jet-packing it to the cache!
