Welcome to Island Spirit, the Cowichan Valley's first Mega Event. With many activities from Wineries and Artisans to Beaches and Tubing the River, walking the Cowichan Valley Trail to hiking up our Mountains there is something to keep everyone entertained. There are many places to explore in the Cowichan Valley and we hope you discover some of the plants and animals and some of our history as you find the geocaches we've hidden for you. From the Island Spirit Team, we hope you enjoy your time in the Cowichan Valley.
All the Island Spirit Legacy Caches are within a 2 steps of the trail, unless otherwise noted. There is no need to bushwack or trample the vegetation.
Indian Plum
Indian Plum, also called Osoberry, is a shrub that is native to the Pacific coast, growing from British Columbia all the way down to California. They are one of the first plants to show leaves in the spring and are also one that flowers early. Growing up to 15 feet tall, the Indian Plum grows fast, is well adapted for sun, shade, wet and dry soils. For these reasons, and the fact that they have fibrous roots that resist soil erosion, the Indian Plum is a good choice for restoration projects. Add to that they are an early season attractant for Hummingbirds and the Indian Plum can be a great addition to your garden.
