This geocache is part of the Discovering Places “Culture Caching” project. The project features 5 new geocaches that have been hidden around the UK in locations related to the 1908, 1948, and 2012 Olympic Games.
It is delivered on behalf of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games by The Heritage Alliance.
This cache is located to the Northwest of Windsor Castle, where the marathon event in the 1908 Summer Olympics began, and East of Dorney Lake, home of the 2012 Olympic Rowing and Sprint Canoe events. This location also marks the 2012 Games Walk project, an interactive arts trail created by the Firestation Centre for Arts & Culture. The trail stretches from Dorney Lake to Windsor and Eton. The works were all created by Artists and Crafts people who worked with local community sectors to create interactive tactile, audio, and visual installations that relate to the history, geography and life of the area.
We encourage you to explore the trail further. If you have a camera with you, take a picture of yourself in front of one of the art pieces and post it in the gallery!

Did you know the marathon distance at the 1908 Olympic Games in London was changed from the original 24.85 miles to 26.2 miles so the race could finish in front of the royal family’s viewing box?
Just two of the official 2012 caches survives, this one and GC3P1K3
