Ghosts of 1812 - The Battle of Lundy's Lane Traditional Cache

Part of the "Ghosts of 1812 Series". Drummond Hill Cemetery is most famously known as the battle grounds of the "Battle of Lundy's Lane", as well as the burial site of Laura Secord.  The cache is a cammoed lock 'n' lock with some swag and room for trackables.  Congratulations to mijojelweslandon for the first to find!! Now on to the story...

In the summer of 1814, American forces crossed the Niagara River to invade Upper Canada. Advancing along the Niagara River, they defeated a British force at the Battle of Chippawa. The British under Sir Gordon Drummond regrouped and on July 25th, within sight of Niagara Falls, the British and Canadian militias were attacked by the American forces.

Throughout the evening the two armies attacked each other and the battle surged back and forth. Both sides suffered heavy casualties but by midnight the Americans retired leaving the British and Canadians holding the field. The Battle of Lundy’s Lane was the bloodiest contest of the War of 1812 and it broke the American thrust in 1814 to take Upper Canada.
