La Battaglia di Doberdò è stato uno degli scontri più sanguinosi della prima guerra mondiale, combattuta nell'agosto 1916 tra l'esercito del Regno d'Italia e quello dell'Austria-Ungheria, quest'ultimo composto prevalentemente da reggimenti ungheresi e sloveni. Lo scontro, che fa parte della Sesta battaglia dell'Isonzo, ebbe luogo in un'area strategica posta sul bordo più occidentale dell'altopiano di Doberdò. Dopo aver conquistato la pianura tra Monfalcone e Ronchi dei Legionari, gli italiani tentarono di sfondare in direzione dell'altopiano di Doberdò, al fine di prendere il controllo della strada principale di connessione tra il porto di Trieste e la città di Gorizia. Dopo violenti combattimenti e numerose perdite, gli attaccanti riuscirono nel loro proposito. Le forze austro-ungariche si ritirarono, e Gorizia fu conquistata dagli italiani. Tuttavia, questi ultimi non riuscirono ad avanzare verso Trieste, e furono fermati a nord-ovest di Duino. La società ha messo una croce in memoria dei caduti, memoria ingiustamente dimenticata dei soldati ungheresi.
A doberdói csata az első világháború egyik legvéresebb csatája volt, melyet 1916 augusztusában vívott meg az olasz haderő az osztrák–magyar hadsereg főként magyar és szlovén nemzetiségű egységével. A csata, mely a hatodik isonzói csata része volt, a Karszt-hegység legnyugatibb szélén lévő Doberdó-fennsíkon zajlott. Az olaszok, miután meghódították a Monfalcone és Ronchi körüli síkvidéket, megpróbáltak áthatolni a fennsíkon, hogy megszerezzék a Trieszt és Gorizia közötti főút ellenőrzését. Súlyos küzdelmek és hatalmas áldozatok árán sikerült elérni céljukat. Az osztrák-magyar erők visszavonultak, Gorizia az olaszok kezére került, de Triesztet nem sikerült elérniük, hanem meg kellett állniuk Duinótól északnyugatra. Az emlékkeresztel baráti társaságunk szeretett volna emléket állítani az idegenben eltemetett méltatlanul elfeledett magyar katonáknak.
The Battle of Doberdò was one of the bloodiest battlefields of World War I, fought in August 1916 between the Italian and Austro-Hungarian Army, composed mostly of Hungarian and Slovenian regiments. The battle, which was part of the Sixth Battle of the Isonzo, took place on a strategic area the westernmost edge of the Kras plateau. The Italians, who conquered the lowland area around Monfalcone and Ronchi, tried to force themselves over the Kras Plateau in order to gain control over the main road linking the port city of Trieste to the town of Gorizia. After fierce fighting and huge casualties, they succeeded in their attempts. The Austro-Hungarian forces retreated and Gorizia fell to the Italians. They however didn't succeed in forcing their way to Trieste, and were stopped north-west of Duino. Our company put a cross in memory of buried away, unfairly forgotten memory of the Hungarian soldiers.
