Geocache Description:



My Grandfather, Stanley is buried in the cemetery here at St. Matthew's Church. Stanley (GC3MVZB) was born in 1919 to John James and Matilda, was raised on River Road (GC2Z4NR) in Lockport and attended Lockport School (GC3C2VN). In 1937, he married Phyllis (GC3MW07) and they had twelve children (GC3N68D, GC3N68K, GC3N68Q, GC3N68Y, GC3N692, GC3N696, GC3N698, GC3N69H, GC3N69R, GC3N69T, GC3N69W, GC3N6A6).

Stanley served in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a tailgunner from 1942-1945 (photo at GC3JY42). Stanley worked as a lockman at the St. Andrews Lock and Dam (GC3GJNA). In 1973, Stanley was awarded the Govenor General's Medal after he and his son Robert (GC3N692) saved two men from drowning in the red River below the dam after the boat they were in missed turning into the canal and proceeded over the falls. 

My Grandfather passed away July 1, 1977 and is still dearly missed. The family comes together at the River Road house to celebrate his birthday every boxing day.

Cache is located in the bush at the back of St. Matthews Church. Please remember to close any gates behind you. There is a church service every Sunday morning so please do not come searching at that time. Cache is a cammoed regular sized pop top container and is not winter friendly.
