Geocache Description:

This cache was placed as part of the Athens County History Geotrail. The incentive is gone, but the cache is still available for finding/logging. Thank you for supporting Athens County geocaches.

The posted coordinates will take you to an area of historical significance. Using information in the immediate area (and possibly at additional waypoints), you will be able to calculate the coordinates for the cache as follows:

At the posted coordinates, you will find statues in front of the building. Let A = the number of statues X 3. Now proceed to the additional waypoint provided below. A sign on the building indicates what artifacts are displayed here. There is a number immediately in front of the word "Disaster." Let B = this number +1 and let C = this number -1.

About This Location

The town of Buchtel is named for John R. Buchtel, an entrepreneur in the area who used his profits to start Buchtel College, which became present day University of Akron. Descendants of the community's original inhabitants attend St. Mary of the Hills Church.
