Geocache Description:

This is a series of caches dedicated to geocachers that I have either cached with, met on the trail, or met at geocaching events. The cache size, difficulty rating, terrain rating, and type of hide is modeled after the type of caches that these cachers either like to find or hide.

Desert Seven on Route 66
Standing: Mobcacher, GasStationWorker, WadeMercer, Zeppo!
FE, PrairieEarth Kneeling: SkooterColumbo, Lindbergh31
Most of this series can be found in Texas (Visit GeoBuddy Series), but Geobuddy #005 is dedicated to the Kansas cacher, PrairieEarth, and should be placed in Kansas. I met PrairieEarth when I was living in Texas. PrairieEarth grew up in Dodge City, KS, went to college at Wichita State University, and currently lives in Topeka. I have shared several geocaching adventures with PrairieEarth, but the most epic geocaching adventure was in July 2011 when we cached the famous Route 66 through the Mojave Desert in 118 degree heat. We did it with 5 other cachers (Mobcacher, FE, WadeMercer, Zeppo!, and Lindbergh31), and called ourselves the Desert Seven. We cached California, Arizona, Nevada, and Utah in record setting heat. I have to admit it was funny seeing 7 grown men packed like sardines into a Ford Explorer, but it was PrairieEarth, our faithful driver and caching partner that kept us sane with his positive attitude and safe with his dynamic driving skills. If you ever cross PrairieEarth’s path then make him tell you the coyote story that happened in the Nevada desert just after dusk.

You are looking for an ammo can. The most challenging part of this cache is finding the approach to this cache. Approaching from the east is attractive because it seems to be quickest and most direct route, but you will encounter a fence and private property. I do not reccomend attempting from this direction. The easiest approach is to park at N 37 42.632 W 097 08.454, which is 0.20 miles from the cache. Follow the concrete walking path. Eventually you will need to cross the water filled ditch or pond. For some this cache is 5.0 terrain for others it is 2.0 terrain.
