A quick park and grab with a fantastic view
In 1930 John Deagle built a power station to supply electricity to Little Current using mostly Indian help. The plant had 1 - 300 hp turbine and 1 - 250 kw generator.
Deagle was known for his offer to supply power for one year at half price to any family having a child, free if there were twins. He also supplied power to natives at half price. Power was supplied free of charge for street lighting, schools and churches.
When the 10 year agreement expired, Little Current began to get its power from Ontario Hydro. The plant and damn washed out in 1956 where there are remnants of the old generating station still visible. The actual cache is a few metres away from the view.
NOTE: This cache is part of the new "Road To Manitoulin" Series of caches, placed to make the trip from Highway #17 to Manitoulin fun for geocachers.
