This cache is easily accessible. I have not placed it next to the well, but the well is visible from nearby.
St Mungo (another name for St Kentigern) church, has the distinction of once allowing cockfighting in its churchyard. The site was a place of worship in pagan times and continued through Roman and pre-Norman days. The present church, built on the site of three earlier churches, is part Norman. It was restored in the 1860s.
The wellhead is beyond the churchyard in the field with the cache and was built in 1878 over the site of a medieval well. It is circular with a conical stone cap and has a wooden door which can be opened to view the well. On the conical stone cap is a C19 inscription which allegedly reads, “With joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation. Isiah X11. Wellies needed!
