A trail-friendly hide placed a dozen feet west of the short spur path off the Portage Pond Loop trail's north side. There's no denying the beauty of Portage Valley as seen from this trail, but as it's a reconditioned gravel mining area one of the most persistent plants found here is the willow. These brushy shrub-trees tend to block any view to Portage River to the north of the Portage Ponds trail - except where this 50 foot long path leads over to a power pole with a great view of the river upstream to the railroad tunnel and Portage Lake.

Be careful looking for this cache - spruce limbs can put your eye out! You're looking for a preform container that's been spraypainted dark brown/black, hanging about six feet above ground. This cache is intended to be easy to find, yet hidden from the casual passerby. Keep children close to you as the nearby river is cold and swiftmoving - and enjoy your time along the Trail of Blue Ice!
