Geocache Description:

The State of Vermont is covered by twelve State Police Barracks. These barracks are organized into four Troops of three stations each. The cache is located near Troup D of the Royalton barracks.

Prior to 1947, each of Vermont's fourteen counties had an elected sheriff responsible for providing all law enforcement services to towns without their own police department. The unsolved disappearance of an 18 year old college student prompted the formation of the Department of Public Safety. Today , 327 sworn members and 90 emergency dispatchers and civilian support staff that work for the Vermont State Police make a difference in the safety of Vermonters and visitors, every day.
