Geocache Description:

This cache is placed at the historical marker indicating the location of the worst train wreck in Iowa history.

Officially known as the "Green Mountain Train Wreck" because it occurred near Green Mountain, IA, on March 21, 1910 a passenger train bound for Waterloo derailled and resulted in the deaths of 52 people.  The exact cause of the crash is unknown.  Many pictures of the wreck and eyewitness accounts can be found online.

A cache has been placed at the historical marker, which also serves as a memorial to those lives lost that day.  Please be respectful of the site when searching for the cache.

The historical marker is located alongside a gravel road off Highway 96.  Use the diagonal power lines as a guide.  The rail line doesn't exist anymore but the power lines indicate where the train tracks used to be.

Good luck and enjoy the hunt!
