Geocache Description:

A small cache overlooking Pololu Valley.

This is the tenth cache of what I'm calling the 'Oscar'-series, dedicated to my first adventuring partner, my dad. Each cache in the series will be at various adventure spots that we shared over the years.

One of my fondest adult adventures was camping and fishing here in Pololu Valley.  We had already spent two full days, with only a single fish caught until someone suggested using the tiny sand crabs as bait.  Although it wasn't the miracle bait we were hoping for, one of our anglers finally hooked an o'io (bonefish) - his first ever.  After a good fight, he was reeling his prize up the black sand beach when the hook popped out - just as a wave was coming up the shore! Not wanting to lose his first o'io ever, this intrepid angler ditched the rod & reel and ran into the surf, tackling and pinning his o'io before it got swept away.  Needless to say, this is one fish story that still comes up over the hibachi and cooler to this day!

The cache itself is hidden well off of the beach, just at the trailhead for the ascent up the far ridge into Honokane Nui valley.  Since it's just off the trail, please be sure to re-hide it well!
