copperhil: Breaks my heart to have to take down this one. It has so many favs but due to homeless people taking over the area it is no longer safe to hunt caches at this spot.

Geocache Description:

Basically just a log and pencil and a couple of Indian figures for trading.
Long before  it was Lebanon Road , it was the Trail of Tears that the Cherokee, Creek, Seminole, Chickasaw, and Choctaw nations (sometimes referred collectively as the Five Civilized Tribes) travelled on their way to their new home in Indian Terriotry (present-day state of Oklahoma). This geocache is placed in their honor.

President Andrew Jackson, our seventh President, continued and renewed the political and military effort  for the removal of the Native Americans from the Southeast when he signed the Indian Removal Act of 1830. Thus began the  forced relocation and movement of Native American nations.
Many Native Americans suffered from exposure, disease and starvation en route to the destinations.  Many died, including 4,000 of the 15,000 relocated Cherokee.

I find it ironic that the Trail of Tears passes right next to The Hermitage, the home of Andrew Jackson.
