Geocache Description:

Photo of Jack and Leona in the trading post courtesy of Cline Library, Special Collections.

Meteor City Trading Post is home to the world's longest map of Route 66. The original mural was painted by Bob Waldmire, the famous wandering resident and artist of Route 66. The original mural eventually weathered away and was repainted in 2002. The original stuco trading post was built in 1938 by Jack Newsmum (population 1) who was joined in the 1940's by his wife, Leona (population 2). A fire destroyed the structure which was replaced with the dome sometime in the 60's.

The original photo is hanging in the trading post.
